Bank Plans PoS Machines For PHCN Centres

First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) says it plans to provide Point of Sales (PoS) machines in all the payment centres of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) across Rivers State.

The South-South Regional Officer, E-business of the bank, Mr. Chris Okorie made the disclosure last week at the Customer Consultative Council/Meeting Launch of POS by First Bank, in partnership with Rumuogba and Borikiri Business Units of PHCN held in Port Harcourt.

The regional officer said in actualising the cashless policy introduced by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through electronic payment, First Bank as one of the foremost banks in the country has the responsibility to assist its numerous customers and other members of the public key into the new payment system through electronic.

Mr. Okorie, who also demonstrated practical use of the POS in bill payment before the PHCN customers in the two business units noted that the essence of the sensitisation programme was to bring customers to know how to use the machines.

“As long as you can operate your phones, you can as well operate the POS. it is simple and does not attract extra charge when you pay your light bills through the POS”, Okorie said.

He maintained that with the cashless payment through the use of debit card there is drastic reduction in terms of risk, cost, stress and time in payment for business transaction and urged customers of the company to take advantage of the opportunity to acquint themselves of the new policy procedure in modern business transaction.

The Rumuogba Business Unit manager of PHCN, Engr. Oliver Ezeugwu emphasised the imperativeness for customers of the power company to be abreast with the new electronic payment system adding that it would be of much benefit to both PHCN and its customers to do business faster and more efficiently.

Engr. Ezeugwu who used the forum to enlighten customers on the new electricity tarrif noted that meter remains the guage for measuring energy consumption, there is need for customers to be careful in handling their metres.

In his own reaction, Borikiri Business Unit Manager, Mr. George Makpokpomi regretted that the rate of vandalisation of PHCN facilities was still high and solicited the support of member of the public in checking the trend.

He said the habit of illegal connection of officially disconnected lines by debtors was also high and advised that any suspicious movement around PHCN facility should be reported to law enforcement agents.

However, Chairman, Customer Consultative Council for Borikiri and Rumuogba business units, Pastor Nengimote Harrison accused management of the units of not carrying along the executive arm of the council in seeking solutions to problems confronting PHCN.

Pastor Harrison who reassured the company of preparedness of its executive to work collectively with authorities of PHCN restated that the issue of illegal connection, vandalisation and attack of PHCN staff by customers could be addressed if the forum was properly carried along in the scheme of things.
