The Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos (UNIJOS), Prof. Hayward Mafuyai, has said that the institution has all it takes to host the 2014 Nigerian University Games (NUGA).

Mafuyai expressed the institution’s readiness to host the competition in an interview with newsmen in Jos, adding that hosting the Games would be the university’s contribution to the development of sports.

“Our interest to host the 2014 NUGA is borne out of our desire to be part of the government’s quest in developing sports in the country,” Mafuyai said.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the institution was making efforts at ensuring that all the sports facilities available were up to standard.

Mafuyai said the institution was optimistic of getting the hosting right, considering the records the university had set since the inception of NUGA.

“UNIJOS’ sportsmen and women have performed well since the inception of the Games and we believe that alone is enough for the organisers to consider us.

“We have all it takes to host the 2014 NUGA Games with little to do, to put up the facilities to standard.”

He called on the State Government to support the university in its bid to host the Games, saying the varsity’s successful bidding would benefit Plateau, now that the state desired to host the 2014 National Sports Festival.

“We shall appreciate the government’s financial support toward upgrading our sporting facilities, which shall be useful to it as well.

“Our security network is so wonderful for the safety of our guests, more so that peace has returned to Jos.”

Mafuyai also called on corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to support the institution’s quest to host the Games, saying: “our success shall be success of all”.
