Zero Tolerance On Corruption, On Course – IG

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar has said that the zero tolerance on corruption is on course saying , this was the reasons he ordered the dismantling of road blocks across the country.

Mr Abubakar who stated this while addressing a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Yenagoa on Monday, said this actions have reduced corruptions in the force by 80 per cent, stressing the war will catch any rank and file of the force including officers who are not ready to adapt the new corruption free Nigeria police.

He said the searchlight is on even those new recruits could be sent out , “even at the point of passing out, if we found out that they are corruption prone”, stressing that henceforth those to be recruited into the force would be required to provide attestation of good character from their community leaders or chiefs.

It is because of the this new drive to create new image for the force that 400 recruits were dismissed for entering the force with forge certificates, he disclosed.

The Super Cop, who later provided a mobile phone Number through which people could complain directly to him against any erring police man, declared “bail is free, women can bail any of their relations held as suspects’’.

He lamented the seeming break down of trust between the people and the police, stressing that without the co-operation of the public, it will be difficult to tackle the criminal elements in the society.

The Inspector-General of Police also lamented the attitude some rich men in Nigeria towards police, contending that while they behaved very well when they meet ordinary sergeant in other countries, here Nigeria, they will not accord even a senior police officer any respect.

He further said, that it is illegal for any suspect to be detained more than 24 hours,and warned policemen who uses intimidation, harassment and extortion of money to get a suspect to desist from such unholy acts.

Answering a question, Mr Abubakar, said as former Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone five in which Bayelsa State is part of, he is conversant with problems facing the officer and men of the command, saying that in 2013, a befitting Command Headquarters in the state.
