Union States Panacea For Poverty, Hunger
The Agriculture and Allied Employees Union (AAEU), has said that the participation of more individuals and groups in agriculture would go a long way to reduce poverty and hunger in Nigeria.
The National President of the association Mr Simon Anchaver made the call on Tuesday in Makurdi when leaders of Ipusu Community in Makurdi paid him a solidarity visit.
Anchaver noted that agriculture is the only industry that could employ millions of people at a time.
He added that if the people embraced agriculture, poverty would be reduced to the barest minimum and there would be enough supply of food to feed the entire country.
He advised Benue people not to abandon agriculture as it is the mainstay of the state.
The president encouraged the people to venture into various aspects of agriculture such as poultry, fish farming, piggery, grasscutter rearing besides crop production so as to improve their economic status.
Earlier, President of the Ipusu community, Capt Dominic Agberifan said they were in Anchaver’s office to identify with him and to congratulate him on his elevation as the National president of AAEU.
Agberifan admonished the national president of the union to assist farmers in the state with useful ideas and avenues that could help them to boost agriculture.
He called on him to use his position and woo the Federal Government to establish agro-allied and food processing industries in the state so that farmers could have value for their products.
Also speaking, Mr Gabriel Iornenge, who was on the visiting team, prayed God to give Anchaver the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the union.
