Super Eagles Draw Flames In Malawi

Super Eagles of Nigeria surrendered a late lead with virtually the last kick of the game to draw 1-1 with the Flames of Malawi in a 2014 World Cup qualifier at the weekend.

Gabriel Reuben appeared to have won the game for Nigeria when he headed in on the stroke of 90 minutes, but a lapse in defense allowed Joseph Banda to rescue a point for the visitors deep into added time.

Sitting on top of the group after the win over Namibia, the Super Eagles were seconds away from opening up a five-point lead at the top, until they succumbed to Banda’s strike.

The point though, keeps the Super Eagles top of the group, with Kenya losing 1-0 to Namibia later on.

A win for the Harambee Stars would have taken them level on points with Nigeria.
