Sharks FC Pips Enyimba 1-0 In PH
Sharks Football Club
of Port Harcourt yesterday at their stadium overcame Enyimba International 1-0 in one of the Week 24 rescheduled Nigeria Premier League matches.
The victory, which was assured courtesy of a 36th minute goal by Kola Anubi lifted the Blue Angels to 45 points, one behind joint leaders, Rangers and Enyimaba. It also strengthened the club’s pursuit of at least a continental ticket at the end of the season, considering that Sharks still have an outstanding match.
It was a closely contested tie, with Sharks pushing for the maximum points from the blast of the referee’s whistle.
However, the encounter proved to be a game of two halves as Sharks dominated proceedings in the first half.
Enyimba, apparently playing to contain Sharks’ pressure sat back and tried to catch their hosts on the counter.
Gbolahan Salami was Enyimba’s lone striker upfront but he found Sharks’ defence too tough to handle.
However, Sharks’ goal came off a corner kick when keeper Paul and his defenders fumbled the ball and allowed it to drop to an unmarked Anubi, who slotted home into an unguarded net.
Despite an increased tempo and better display in the second half, Enyimba failed to grab the needed equaliser until the referee’s final whistle.
