RSG Set To Digitalise Lands/Survey Ministry
The Rivers State government has announced its readiness to fully digitalise the Lands/Survey Ministry.
This was made known by the lands/Survey Commissioner, Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi (Esq.) while during his address at the land Summit held in Port Harcourt recently.
Ezekiel-Amadi, said one of the reasons of the digitalisation, is to reduce work-load in the ministry and enhance proper documentation.
According to him, the state Government is currently pursuing a digital Geographic Information System (GIS) based integrated Lands Management System, adding that there is urgent need to advance the extent system.
He explained that the system will aid the ministry do a better deal than the analogue days.
The Commissioner, explained how cumbersome it was when he was appointed as lands/Survey Commissioner, adding that the old system made things sour for them then.
He hinted that the issuance of Certificate of occupancy (Cof O) was a heculiar task, saying that with the new innovation C of O can be can issued within 90 days.
The Tide learnt that the digitalisation of the lands/Survey Ministry will not only limit the bottle-neck associated with the issuance of C of O, but will also check corruption in the Ministry.
He has also charged his staff to be prepared for computer and modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training, so as to enable them fit properly in the planned digital system of the ministry.
The Lands/Survey boss, told them (staff0 that they can combine speed with accuracy, stressing that it will not be business as usual after the digitalisation of the Ministry.
The event winded up with a syndicate forum with over 90 per cent of the participants support for the digitalisation of the ministry.
