Reps Assures On Poverty Alleviation
Member Representing Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency in Rivers State, Dr Dawari George, has vowed to fight poverty and empower the people economically.
Dr George who stated this recently while distributing items to over 300 members of the constituency regretted that most people from his constituency were living below poverty rate and assured to work to eliminate unemployment in the areas.
“I am very sorry to say that many people in the area are poor, but I don’t want people to remain poor, I want people to fend for themselves not to beg continually” Dr George said.
He explained that the economic empowerment was a fulfillment of one of the promises he made to his people if they vote for him.
According to him, what I am doing today is one of the things I promised during my campaign and also what the people have demanded. They requested an empowerment programme that would eliminate their standard of living.
He advised the recipients to use the equipment judiciously, that it would serve as source of revenue to their lives.
Speaking at the occasion Professor Nimi Briggs said this was the first time such thing had happened in the history of Kalabari Kingdom, for a politician to give back to his people.
Briggs advised the recipients to use the equipment for its purpose and desist from the habit of selling them.
According to him, “if used it would improve your lives and alleviate year sufferings”.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Urban Development in the state Hon. Tammy Danagogo also commended Dr George for his achievement within one in office and called others years to emulate him.
