NDPHC To Boost Electricity By 1,025MW
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) says it has 1,025mw of electricity in three power stations across the country waiting to be fed into the national grid.
The Managing Director of NDPHC, Mr James Olotu, made this known in Abuja on Wednesday when Mr Adenrele Shinaba, Commissioner of Police, FCT, paid him a courtesy visit.
“As I speak, we have five units at our Olorunsogo Phase II station ready to deliver 650mw and in Sapele, about 250mw.
“In Omotosho, we have 125mw of electricity ready for the national grid,” Olotu said.
Olotu explained that the delivery of the 1,025mw into the national grid would be dependent on the availability of gas.
He said the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, NNPC, international oil companies and the Nigeria Gas Company were making efforts to bridge the gap in gas supply.
According to him, this year will be a harvest season for the organisation charged with the responsibility of boosting power infrastructure.
The NDPHC boss noted that Alaoji Power Station, the largest among the 10 independent power stations, would also make a significant power delivery into the national grid before the end of this year.
“This is a year of harvest in NIPP. Last week, we were in Lagos to inaugurate 10 distribution injection substations that will boost the quality of electricity that will get to consumers.
“Similar projects were inaugurated in Kaduna and more projects will be inaugurated every month till the end of the year.”
Responding, Shinaba commended the NDPHC’s efforts at addressing the challenges in the power sector.
Shinaba assured the management of NDPHC that his command would do everything possible to provide security assistance whenever the need arises.
He observed that NDPHC had huge responsibility to boost power, stressing that with the delivery of electricity across the country; Nigerians should be properly educated on the activities of NDPHC.
According to him, it is only through such enlightenment that Nigerians can be informed and will appreciate the efforts and challenges facing the execution of the projects.
