Mrs Okorocha Tasks Women On Healthy Living
The wife of the Imo Governor, Mrs Nkechi Okorocha, has called on women in Imo to ensure healthy living habits by eating nutritional and balanced foods.
Okorocha made the call at the flag off of the “Maggi Women Forum”, organised by the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in conjunction with Nestle Foods Ltd. in Owerri on Monday.
She said the forum was an innovative way of educating Imo people, especially women, on local nutrition issues, centred on home gardening initiative, food presentation and table manners.
Okorocha commended Nestle Maggi for choosing the state for this year’s “Maggi Women’s Forum Imo Edition” which she said was aimed at encouraging home gardening for accessibility of fresh vegetables.
“Nestle has provided nutrition expertise today that will teach us healthy eating tips. They have through this medium reached out to people on problems accruing to micro-nutrient deficiency,” she said.
She encouraged mothers to plant vegetables around their homes to enable them get fresh vegetables always for healthy living, adding that green vegetables were not expensive.
Okorocha said that her office and that of the Ministry of Women Affairs were passionate about issues that concerned women.
“I have through several gatherings sensitised our women on their roles in the family and the proper way to achieve harmonious family co-existence. This event will complement my efforts,” she said.
She called on organisations to collaborate with government to achieve sustainable development through improved nutrition.
The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Lady Ann Dozie, said the programme, would help to promote good health.
She said the State Government attached much importance to healthy living, urging women to ensure they produced spices which she said, helps the body to fight toxins in the body.
Mr Guy Kellaway, Category Business Manager, Nestle Maggi, said that Nestle Foods Ltd. was passionate about giving good and nutritious food to people.
He said that foods cooked with maggi were delicious and nutritious, noting that maggi makers had added iron to it “which is important to the body.”
