Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, representing Aguata II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has urged the people of the area to imbibe the tree planting culture to protect the environment.

Uzoezie, the Chairman, House Committee on Environment,   made the call in an interview  on Tuesday in Awka.  He decried the high level of bush burning and improper disposal of industrial waste, adding: “This practice affects the soil and environment negatively.”

He enjoined the people to imbibe the tree planting culture, saying that it does not only provid shade and beauty, but also protects the people from ozone layer hazards.

The lawmaker underscored the need to be environment friendly by adopting proper waste control measures.

He warned against the the disposal of waste inside gullies, gutters and unauthorised places.

Uzoezie said that the state government had procured more equipment to enhance waste collection and disposal to ensure a cleaner and safe environment.

According to him, there is an ongoing construction of a site for the dumping and recycling of wastes in Oyi Local Government Area.

Uzoezie urged residents to dispose their waste properly, plant a tree and “think green”.
