Igbo Agwuru Asa Clan Gets New Monarch
A member of the governing council of the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Port Harcourt, Dr Samuel N. Amaechi, has been installed as the new Onye-Ishi-Agwuru Igbo Clan, Igbo-Agwuru Asa in Etche Local Government Area of the state.
The installation of the new monarch by the Ochie of Etche land, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Eze E.N.B Opurum, recently follows the demise of the former occupant of the stool, HRH Eze Job Nwala in 2009 and a subsequent court judgement on the matter delivered by a Port-Harcourt Judge, Justice L. L. Nyordee.
Justice Nyordee had on the 18th May, 2012 through an order of mandatory injunction, directed the defendants to the king makers (Electoral College) in the manner and as provided for in the constitution of Etche Division of traditional Rulers and chiefs, to elect a new Onye-Ishi-Agwuru for Igbo Agwuru-Asa Clan for the vacant stool.
Subsequently, an election was held on May 20th at Egwi Hall, Egwi, Etche Local Government Area, which saw Dr Samuel Amaechi emerge as the winner after polling 80% of votes cast to beat his only contender Eze Charles Nwala, the Ochimba of Chokocho community.
Speaking at the installation ceremony held at the palace of Ochie of Etche land in Ndashi, HRM Eze E.N.B Opuru thanked the people of the clan for the peaceful disposition exhibited during the process to elect a new Onye. Awuru and described Dr Amaechi as a dependable and committed son of Etche land.
He advised the new Onye Ishi Agwuru Igbo Clan, Dr Samuel Amaechi to reconcile all the aggrieved parties in the area so as to fasttrack rapid transformation of the clan.
Responding, the Onye Ishi Agwuru Igbo Clan, HRH Samuel N. Amaechi thanked the people of the clan for the confidence reposed on him and assured of his commitment to attract more developmental projects in the area.
