HOS Cup: Min Of Information, Three Others In Semi Finals

The River State Ministry of Information and Communications football team yesterday at the Sharks Fc Stadium, Port Harcourt, silenced their Ministry of Environment counterparts  after knocking them out of the ongoing Public Service Football Competition, Head of Service HOS Cup.

The Ministry of Information and Communications team, christened Mighty Sparrows edged out the boastful and ambitious opponents 4-2 on penalty shootout after regulation time has ended.

In the ensued shoot out, Mighty Sparrows converted their first four kicks, while their keeper saved two of Environments four kick to propel the team to the semi-final stage.

Ministry of Environment, which has now met Mighty Sparrows thrice in the four year old competition, losing twice and winning once, had promised to overrun their opponents comprehensively, enroute challenging for the trophy this season.

But an improved Mighty Sparrows tactically neutralized their threats and aborted their ambition at the quarter final stage.

Also yesterday, the Ministry of Sports secured their semi final berth with a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory over Civil Service Commission team.

Scores at half time was goalless but Sports was able to put their acts together and scored twice in the second half.

The victory now pitches them against Mighty Sparrows in one of  the semi final ties on Friday.

Earlier on Monday, defending champions, Ministry of Special Duties overcome the quarter final challenge of Ministry of Health 2-0 to make the semi final stage.

They were made to work hard and move into extra gear to edge the Health team, who could not sustain their opening 12 minutes steam and performance against the champions.

Special Duties will now face Ministry of Power in the first semi-final match on Friday, a repeat of last season’s final match which the Special Duties team prevailed via penalty shoot out.
