Govt Sues For Peace Among Ebonyi Communities

The Ebonyi Government on Tuesday in Abakaliki sued for peaceful co-existence among communities, traditional rulers, Local Government administrators and citizens to move the state forward.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Mr Celestine Nwali, made the call at the presentation of the Eze-elect of Ishiagu Community in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Sir Christian Umoke, the commissioner harped on the need for communities to maintain peace in their domains to fast-track development.

According to him, the presentation is a prerequisite for the installation of the monarch, Chief Elias Ezenta, and government’s recognition as provided by the constitution.

“You still need to submit all the necessary documents such as video clips of the election of the royal father to this ministry for governor’s action.

“You should go about your normal businesses and be law-abiding as you are all aware that this administration anchors on peace and mutual understanding,” he said.

The chairman of the Local Government Council, Mr Celestine Eze, said that election of the new monarch came four years after the demise of the former royal father.

He said that the election followed due processes as contained in the Constitution of the Ishiagu Community Development Union.

The octogenarian Eze-elect, Chief Ezenta, promised to uphold the tenets of the stool of kingship and to ensure that government programmes and policies were fully implemented in the community.

It will be recalled that the royal stool in Ishiagu Community had been in contention since it became vacant in 2008.
