… Flags Off Free Computer Training For Teachers
The wife of the Imo State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Okorocha, on Monday flagged off a free computer training programme for teachers in Imo.
The training tagged “Free Computer Training Programme for Teachers in Imo State”, was organised by the State’s Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with Systematics B/Technologies Ltd. in Owerri.
Okorocha said the training was part of the State Government’s policy of ensuring quality education for children as well as part of the governor’s ‘mentorship programme’ for the development of the state.
The governor’s wife, who described the teachers as diligent and hard working, commended the management of Systematcis for complementing government’s effort by donating laptops and for volunteering to train the teachers.
“By providing the laptops, you have made the work of the teachers easy. You will make them more knowledgeable which will translate to our children for better performance,” she said.
The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr Uche Ejiogu, explained that the programme was aimed at creating a paradigm shift in literacy instruction in the state’s education sector.
Ejiogu said that the SUBEB Board decided to partner with the company to complement government’s input towards realising a functional educational system in the state.
“The training Systematic-B Technologies will give to the teachers will help them in the use of computer and other technologies to improve learning, productivity and performance.
“It will enable the teachers to widen the boundaries of their classroom to include the surrounding community as well as the global network,” she said.
Ejiogu noted that the computer literacy background of the teachers would also arm them to impact sound knowledge to pupils who would graduate from schools.
