First Lady Wants Commissioners’ Wives To Assist Less Privileged

First Lady of Rivers State, Dame Judith Amaechi has charged wives of Government Officials to use their privilege position to impact on the lives of the needy in the society.

Dame Amaechi stated this while playing host to wives of Commissioners, who paid her a courtesy call at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Mrs Amaechi stated that the societal challenge has confer enormous responsibility on women especially the privileged ones and wives of top government functionaries who are expected to shoulder responsibility of the needy.

According to her ‘it has become imperative for wives of top government functionaries to realize their new role in the society and what to do to be alive to their responsibility”.

Apart from being a wife, Mrs Amaechi stated that the spouses of top government officials can support their husbands and complement their effort in the bid to improve on the quality of service delivery to the citizenry.

The governor’s wife who led Rivers women on a courtesy call visit to the state governor recently restated her determination to develop the entrepreneurial prowess of women to make them self-reliant and economic relevant to the society.

Leader of the group and wife of the Secretary to the Rivers State Governor, Mrs Stella George Feyii, said the women were pleased with the governor’s wife empowerment scheme especially the early child nursery school initiative, for children between ages 3 and 6.

Mrs Feyii stated that the governor’s gender sensitive programme has opened lots of opportunities for women and added that such gesture would assist them in creating wealth among families.

She added that the wives of Commissioners are donating a school to boost the early child care development and education programme in the state initiated by the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), a non-governmental organisation founded by the wife of the Rivers State Governor.
