An estate surveyor and valuer in Port Harcourt, Benjamin Oti, has decried the use of some properties along Ojoto Street in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, by liquor distributors, as their ware houses.

Recounting the numerous traffic challenges and other difficulties this has caused the general public in a chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt, recently, Mr. Oti who is the principal consultant of Ben Oti and Company, an estate surveying firm, said that the operation of liquor warehousing along Ojoto Street was not ideal, since it is a residential/commercial area.

He said that operation of such liquor distribution business and ware housing required a bigger environment for operation, where trailers and trucks used for such business could be parked; but regretted the hardship the general public, especially motorists face almost every day because of liquor business operation along the street.

According to Mr. Oti, “any person who is engaged in such beer/liquor ware housing business should look for a spacious place that trailers and other trucks could park. “Such business is not suitable at Ojoto because it is a residential and commercial environment” he said.

He also lamented the high level of traffic jam witnessed along the axis almost on daily basis, and called on the Rivers State government to wake up to the challenge, to ensure that the road is free for motorists and other road users.

Mr. Oti maintained that it would not be fair, if government allowed the business of one man or few individuals to continue to create such traffic problem in the area, without being checked by the appropriate authority.

The environmental expert posited that the right governmental agency should be used to tackle the menace, which he said was causing a lot of hardship to road.
