Enugu Police Command Smashes Robbery Gang
Enugu State Police Command has arrested a five-man robbery gang that specialises in robbing people of their property inside commercial vehicles popularly known as ‘one chance.’
This is contained in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amarizu, las Thursday in Enugu.
Amarizu said that following a tip-off, the suspects were intercepted in a Nissan Sunny salon car with registration number XA764 TFB on June 12.
He said that the suspects had robbed one Mrs Ifeoma Eze who boarded the car before she was pushed out of the vehicle, leaving her stranded.
Amarizu said the police recovered N10, 000 allegedly collected from the victim and some papers which were cut into currency notes size.
He said the suspects were helping the police in their investigations and would be charged to court later.
An Enugu High Court Judge, Justice Chiene Nwobodo, on Tuesday discharged two armed robbery suspects and advised the prosecutor to return when he was ready for the matter.
The suspects are Abraham Echamazu and Mike Chime who were alleged to have on October 25, 2010, at No. 23, Carter Street, Astata Enugu, conspired to steal a car.
They were alleged to have been armed with a screw driver and a gun while attempting to open one Opel Omega car with registration number AX 70 AVL valued at N700,000, property of one Pastor Sunny Ejiogu.
Mr I. Umerah, counsel for the accused persons, filed a motion asking the court to strike out the matter till the state counsel is ready.
The court also adjourned another case of fraud preferred against one Goni Golit till July 3 and July 4 for continuation of hearing.
Mrs O.N. Ani, counsel for the accused, informed the court that the matter was for continuation of hearing and cross examined the witness.
The accused person was alleged to have on July 6, 2011 obtained credit by means of a cheque issued to Innoson Nig. Ltd, Enugu, which bounced on presentation for payment.
