Doctor Warns Against Excessive Alcohol In Rainy Season
Chief Medical Director, Onitsha General Hospital, Dr. Uche Onyejimbe, has warned against excessive alcohol intake to avoid pneumonia during the rainy season.
Onyejimbe spoke on Thursday on water air-borne diseases and how to prevent them during the season.
“Those in the habit of excessive drinking of alcohol should stop it in order to have control of their senses and sleep in an ideal place.
“They should stop lying on a wet, damped or bare floor, as well as to check the intake of chilled drinks especially during late night hours,’’ he said.
Onyejimbe called on residents to maintain a clean environment to forestall outbreak of diseases associated with the rains.
He said that the leading cause of diseases associated with cold weather was people’s negative attitude towards the environment.
“To check air-borne diseases such as pneumonia; one must keep one’s environment clean. “Refuse and other waste must be disposed of properly. Refuse should be covered always when close to a living area.
