Dana Crash: RSG Shelves Programmes Condoles With Bereaved
Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi has sent a message of condolence to President Goodluck Jonathan over the spate of tragedies that befell the nation over the weekend.
In a statement signed by his Deputy, Engr Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi expressed the sympathy and deep condolence of the government and people of the state to the president and entire nation over the tragic incidents, the Dana airline jet carrying 153 passengers and crew members travelling from Abuja to Lagos that crashed in the suburb of Lagos, the crash of a Nigerian registered cargo plane in Ghana and the bomb blast in Bauchi.
According to Governor Amaechi, in honour of those people who died and in compliance with the directive of Mr President, declaring three days of national mourning and that flags across the country be flown at half mask, the monthly intergovernmental meeting of the state government expected to be held last Monday was called off.
Addressing those who gathered at the banquet hall of Government House for the meeting, and after observing a minute silence for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident, Governor Amaechi directed the meeting be called off and to reconvene next week Monday in honour of the dead and the mood of the nation.
The governor also called off all other states functions within the three days of national mourning.
