The Customs Area Controller of the zone Mr. Dan Ugo who made the disclosure in a statement recently said the interception and subsequent destruction of the banned items was the fruit of the units renewed vigour in ensuring zero tolerance for importation of poultry products into the country.

According to him, the operation was witnessed by representatives of the relevant regulatory agencies including the National Agency for Food. Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

The Public Relations Officer of the unit, Mr. Uche Ezesieme quoted Controller Ugo as saying that “the unit will not renege on its statutory functions of suppressing smuggling and facilitate trade”.

He noted that the latest marching order on zero tolerance to poultry products from Customs headquarters Abuja triggered the latest onslaught and vowed that the unit would stop at nothing in ensuring sustained war on the importers of these prohibited products.

He added that service was not unmindful of the economic and health implications associated with these unwholesome acts hence the urgent need to put modalities in place to check the illicit trade.
