Cultism: Normalcy Returns To Enugu
The police in Enugu on Tuesday assured residents of return to normalcy after the recent indiscriminate shooting and killings by rival cult groups in some parts of the city.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amaraizu said in a telephone interview on Tuesday in Enugu that the command made several arrest of suspects.
He said that efforts were being made to pick other cult members involved in the incident.
“Everywhere in the state is calm now and people are free to go about their normal businesses,’’ he said.
He appealed to the people to provide the police with useful information to curb crime in the state.
Amaraizu said that four persons and not seven were killed during the shoot-out at Achara Layout, Zik Avenue, Ogui Road, and Naiko Hotel at Artisan Quarters.
“We have so far arrested nine persons who are allegedly involved in the killings. Four persons were killed as against seven reported in some dailies.
“The police are not arresting people indiscriminately as was insinuated in some quarters. We are working with the information made available to us by people in our custody, ‘’ he said.
Amaraizu said that anyone arrested belonged to one cult group or another and gave assurance that the command would do everything possible to bring the offenders to book.
