Concillor Plans Youth Empowerment Scheme
In a bid to fulfil her electioneering promises to her people, a female councillor representing ward 19 in Port Harcourt City Legislative Assembly, Mrs Christianah Dede, has promised to promote youth development in the area through empowerment programmes.
Dede gave this assurance while speaking at a town hall meeting organised to acquaint the people of her ward on the activities of government, held at Elekahia on Wednesday.
The councilor said she was perturbed by the level of unemployment especially among the youths adding that the scheme would help to alleviate the unemployment challenges in the area.
The councilor promised that the town hall meeting would be a regular one as it would offer the people opportunity to hear from their representative stating that the era where elected officers deny their people the opportunity to access them after electing them into office was over.
Giving the account of her stewardship in office for the past one year in office, Dede said that eleven young men have been provided with employment while some widows recieved financial assistance to enhance their petty trading, assuring that she would continue in her little contribution.
Responding to questions, Christiana Dede appealed to the residents of Nkpogu whose residence and properties have been earmarked for demolition by the state government adding that the position taken by the state government was to make the place more conducive for people and not intended to bring hardship to them.
She however, appealed to the state government to give the people time to enable them resettle their belonging and urged for better compensation for those affected.
