Community Urges Shell To Honour Agrement
The people of Iriebe community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have urged the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) to implement its agreement with the community over the construction of a 4.5km road in the area.
The paramount ruler of the community, HRH Eze (Dr.) Michael Eleto told newsmen at his palace during a peaceful protest by the people, that the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) had reneged on its agreement to construct the 4.5km road network.
The traditional ruler also said that the people had written a letter to this effect to the management of SPDC without a response till date.
He decried the incessant use of security agencies to harass the people of Iriebe and stressed the need for urgent intervention by the state government.
Eze Eleto, however, advised the people to remain calm as the community would continue to explore peaceful approach to resolve the problem.
The youth President of Iriebe, Mr. Innocent Eleto said that the community would continue to use peaceful approaches to resolve their problem.
Also speaking, the youth president of iriebe, Mr. Innoent Eleto stressed the need for the management of SPDC to have a listening ear to the plea of the people to avoid a possible breakdown of law and order in the area.
