Bayelsa, Delta NYSC Lose Eight Members, Discipline 37
The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), Bayelsa State, lost three members to death due to illness, while 12 were slammed with extension as a result of truancy and acts of indiscipline during the 2011 Batch service year in the state.
The names of the dead corps members were giving as Patricia Ameh, Obeagu Solomon,and Kagbara Samuelson while the names of those who were disciplined were not disclosed.
State Co-ordinator of the NYSC in the State, Mr Abdulrasheed Abiodun who disclosed this in Yenagoa, at the passing out ceremony of the 2011 Batch”B” corps members ,lauded the out-gone members for their various contributions to the general development of their host communities.
Abiodun said that in as much as management appreciate their patriotic zeal to serve their father land, they should try much harder to contribute positive wherever they found themselves in course of developing the country.
The state coordinator urged successful corp. members to be good ambassadors of the scheme and make good use of the various entrepreneurial and self-help skills acquired during the service year to build a sustainable venture.
Abiodun said a total of 2,013 corps members who being disengaged, distinguished themselves in their various primary assignments in their host communities.
He urged not to betray the expectations of their parents who had invested so many resources to educate them, hence they should work hard in their future endeavors to support their families.
In a related development, the National Youth Service Corps in Delta State said that five of its corps members, who served in the 2011 Batch ‘B’ died during the service year.
The state Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs. Vivian Omeruo, disclosed this on Thursday in Asaba at the passing out parade of 2011 Batch B corps members.
She, however, said that their deaths, which occurred “through various unfortunate circumstances, were heroic as they died in active service.”
Omeruo also said that 25 corps members were penciled down for various sanctions ranging from repeat of service to extension of service for various in disciplinary conducts.
She said that out the 25 corps members, nine, who absconded, would repeat the service year.
