Anambra To Rehabilitate Secondary Schools
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, said last Tuesday that the government would commence the rehabilitation of structures in secondary schools in the state to give them a face-lift.
“We will begin with Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, to other secondary schools and make sure that the depilated structures are repaired and given a face-lift.’’
Obi spoke during an inspection of facilities at the school in response to a text message he received from the Senior Prefect of the school, Miss Cynthia Anim, over dilapidation of the school’s buildings.
He requested the school’s management to send an estimate for the renovation, adding that it was unacceptable to his administration for children to study under such non-conducive environment.
“We would change this trend which was the same in almost all the schools at the inception of my administration.’’
Obi attributed the dilapidation to the takeover of schools by the government, adding that the determination to restore high standards in schools informed the government’s return of schools to their original owners.
He stressed the need for moral values and discipline in teaching and learning, and urged the students to work hard to achieve their full potential and live fulfilled lives.
Obi also toured the Onitsha High School, and Our Lady’s High School, Nkpor, near Onitsha, where he donated a 20-seater bus and 10 computer sets.
