The Ikolaba Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi,  has called on the Nigeria Premier League to sanction officials and referees caught displaying favouritism in the league.

Alabi made the call when he addressed the press after a pep talk with 3SC FC at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan.

He said that referees and officials should be seen to be above board, adding that cheating would mar the progress of the league and the development of football in Nigeria.

Alabi said the purpose of the talk was to motivate 3SC players, who recently recorded impressive outings.

“ The stars are shooting again. Some months back, they were at the very bottom of the table but now they have made a turn around and nudging at the top of the table,’’ Alabi said.

He said such talk was necessary to lift the spirit of the players and the management.

Alabi called on the players to always take into cognisance the reputation of the club.

He said that the world over, sports had been commercialised, to make money rather than be seen as a display of talent and creativity.

He commended Gov. AbiolaAjimobi, Mr Dapo Lam-Adeshina, and the commissioner for Sports as well as workers of Oyo Sports Council for their efforts and strategy to lift the club from its poor state.

Alabi urged the government to pay the players commensurate allowances that would sustain and motivate them to greater heights.

Similarly, 3SC Board Chairman, Mr Toyin Akintunde,  said the board had always motivated the players since the members came on board.

Akintunde said what the members met on ground was nothing to write home about and said that the wisdom of the Ajimobi-led administration had changed that for the better.

He appealed to the players to work hard to achieve resounding successes in the game of football.

Akintunde assured fans of the club of improved and sustenance of performance of the club.
