One hundred and forty three persons were on Wednesday sworn-in as Justices of the Peace in Anambra, with a call on them to always uphold the truth and stand for the good of the society.

In his speech after the swearing-in in Awka, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Peter Umeadi, urged them to live up to the powers conferred on them.

“This is a great number to come out of Anambra. If 143 of you, especially the young ladies among you, stand up for the truth, denounce wrong and uphold right in public, the society will be better for it.”

The last time such appointment was made in the state was in 2008.

Among the recipients are the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state, Mr Jerry Nnubia, and a legal practitioner, Mr Bona Oraekwe.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission(ANSIEC) has announced processes for the conduct of local government elections.

The Acting Chairman of the commission, Chief Sylvester Okonkwo, told newsmen in Awka on Wednesday that the electoral body had begun the printing of sensitive and non- sensitive materials for the elections.

Okonkwo said that nearly 20,000 copies of sensitisation materials for political education were almost ready.

The chairman said that the voters’ register of nine out of the 21 local government areas in the state had been printed, while others were being prepared.

Okonkwo expressed delight that an electoral offences tribunal had been established to try election irregularities and warned trouble makers to steer clear of the state.
