The Zambian government says it is still planning to establish a national airline, but does not want to set up an airline that would collapse just after a few months.

The Post of Zambia reported on Monday that, Zambia has no national airline since the 1994 collapse of Zambia Airways, which was the country’s flag carrier.

Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Yamfwa Mukanga said plans of launching a national airline were there, but could only be commenced when the cabinet decides how it should be done.

“What people should know is that plans of having our own airline are there and we don’t want a situation where an airline starts operating today and collapses the other day.

“What we want to see is an airline that will benefit and develop Zambia,” he said.
