RSSC Board Commits To Grassroots Sports Dev
The Chairman, Board of Directors of Rivers State Sports Council, Hon Charles Paul has promised to promote the development of grassroots sports in order to move sports to its desired height in the state.
Hon Paul made the pledge during the maiden meeting between the board and staff of the council on Monday at the multi-purpose hall of the Alfred Diette-Spiff Sports Complex, Port Harcourt.
He said that, for sports to move forward in the state, the council has to groom its own athletes as to stop the idea of buying athletes from other states to represent the state in any state or national engagement.
“We need indigenous athletes who would be there to represent the state at any level and to ensure rapid growth of sports in the state and also bring back the lost glory of sports in the state”, he noted.
The Chairman also assured better welfare packages for the staff of the council especially in the areas of comfortable working environment, facilities and equipment, sporting centres and mobility to motivate the work force.
Responding on behalf of the staff of the council the Director of Sports, Rivers State Sports Council, Sir Daobu Harvest Henry, Angels thanked the Board Chairman for his readiness to move the council forward and assured him of the support of the staff to achieve the objectives.
