RSG Splashes N23m On Deceased Police Officers’ Families
As part of its promises to ameliorate the sufferings of bereaved
families of late 23 police officers who died in active service, the Rivers
State Government has paid a total sum of N23million to next of kins of the late
officers in the state.
Presenting the cheques of N1million each to
the bereaved families at the Police Officers Mess in Port Harcourt last
Wednesday, the Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said the gesture was in
fulfillment of his administration’s promises to the welfare of security
personnel serving in the state.
Represented on the occasion by the state
Commissioner of Police, Mohammed A, Indabawa, the governor said it was a moment
of sober reflection in the command, and described death as a necessary end in
human life.
CP Indabawa stated that the fallen police
officers had left behind leaders of tomorrow, adding that it was in that light
that the government made available the money so that the affected families
could be taken care.
The commissioner of police while
commiserating with the families of the late police officers, urged the
beneficiaries to make good use of the money, especially in the area of their
children’s education.
The state police boss used the opportunity
to appreciate the government’s gesture in providing infrastructure necessary to
enhance security operations in the state, adding that such support would help improve the
performance of security operatives in the state.
He assured members of the public on the
commitment of the force to protect lives and property in the state, and called
for cooperation at all times.
A minuite of silence was later observed in
honour of the late police officers.
In an interview, some of the beneficiaries
lauded the state government’s gesture, adding that the money would help them
immensely.
Mrs Cecilia Obuches and Ifeanyi Chima thanked Governor Amaechi for remembering
their families in this moment of grief, and prayed the Almighty God to continue
to endow him with courage and wisdom to govern the state.
