Manchester Utd Defeats Rivers Boys FC 2-0
The Manchester United FC of Ahoada West, Rivers State has defeated Rivers Boys FC of Port Harcourt in one of the quarter final matches of the ongoing Mega Soccer Tournament at N0.5 Field, Port Harcourt at the weekend.
Hundreds of spectators who came to watch the Rivers Boys FC were disappointed at the end of the encounter as the visitors went home with 2-0 goals victory at the end of 90 minutes to proceed into semi-finals.
The Rivers Boys went into the game with the hope of getting the result they needed. They took the initiatives, dominated the midfield but failed to score.
In the 39th minute, Manchester United scored their first goal through a penalty.
Rivers Boys, however, tried very hard to draw level, but due to the articulated defense and the goal keeper of the opponents they could not change the score line till the end of first half.
Boys continued dominant play with their artistry in the attack but still came short in the vital area as the defense of Manchester United resisted them.
Manchester United however, put the game beyond their opponents as they cashed in on the lackluster defending of Rivers Boys and increased the tally 2-0 in the 63 rd minute.
In an interview shortly after the match, the captain of Manchester United Anetu Clifford expressed delight with their victory, saying that they played to their coach’s instructions.
“I am very happy winning this match because in a game like this our coach told us to go all out and play our normal game, and playing against a good team, we should not give up till the last whistle. That is exactly what happened,” Clifford said.
Also, an elated coach, Mr. Nicky Otaji said that the match was very in foresting.
“I was thinking that our next match would be the Kigali in the quarter final but unfortunately, the Rivers Boys FC won, this made us to very serious over the encounter,” Otaji enthused.
