A Chairmanship candidate for Esit Eket Local Government in Akwa Ibom, Chief Ibanga Etang,  has pledged to run an open and inclusive administration if elected.

Etang, a candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming local government elections made the pledge on Sunday in Etebi, Esit Eket during a thank you visit for his victory at the party’s primaries.

The candidate visited the three political zones in Esit Eket Local Government to express appreciation to delegates and party members who supported his candidature at the primary elections to select PDP chairmanship candidates across Akwa Ibom.

He observed that the massive support he received at the keenly contested primaries reflected the desire of the delegates to enthrone an administration that would be accountable to the people.

The candidate commended the sportsmanship spirit of some fellow contestants for the PDP ticket who accepted the result of the primaries and pledged their support.

“It is not a winner takes all, I will not play politics of exclusion and I will accommodate all my fellow contestants who did not leave for other parties, there were five candidates from Etebi zone alone.

“The spread of the support I received is an indication of the expectations of the people, I will not disappoint the people because I understand their feelings.

“ This is just to say thank you, in due course we shall go into the field for electioneering campaign where I shall unfold my plans for Esit Eket Local Government,” Etang said.

The Tides correspondent reports that a visit to Eket and neighbouring council areas in Southern Akwa Ibom shows that the announcement of the elections timetable last month has heightened political activities in the area for chairmanship and councillorship positions in the coming polls.

The election across the 31 local government areas in the state has been scheduled for June 9.
