The President, Dr. Good luck Jonathan  said the numerous problems facing Nigeria did not start when he took over the mantle of the leadership of the country about two years ago.

President Jonathan, who spoke in Udi, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state during the funeral ceremony in honour of the mother of Enugu State Governor, Mrs Theresa Chime, said something must have gone wrong along the line from 1914 when the Southern and Northern Protectorates were amalgamated till date.

He averred that Nigerians needed to reassess their journey especially from independence till date to know the areas we have gone wrong and done well.

The president advised Nigerians against playing politics with the development of the country and appealed for all hands to be on deck to save Nigeria.

While commiserating with Governor Sullivan Chime and members of his family, he noted that the deceased contributed enormously to the successes recorded by his children.

Jonathan recalled that when he was growing up, her mother warned him “that if I smoke, I will die”, adding that his mother’s advice kept him away from smoking.

Earlier in his speech, Governor Chime had thanked the president for attending the funeral ceremony and prayed God to continue to give him courage to carry out his reform agenda.

In his sermon at the funeral ceremony, the Principal of College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) , Enugu , Dr Nnamdi Nwankwo stated that the late Mrs. Theresa Chime was so fond of her children, adding that she was a devoted Christian.

Describing the deceased a naturally born lawyer and symbol of love, the cleric stated that she also showed love to all children.

He recalled that the late community leader brought out the money she saved for Udi Women at the end of the war exactly as they were and refused to change them into Biafran Money, a development, he said, earned her the nickname “ Bank of Udi Women”.

President Jonathan read the first lesson from the book of Wisdom 3:1:9 while Governor Sullivan Chime read the second lesson from the second letter of St Paul to Corr. 4:16 and 5:10.

President Good luck Jonathan and his wife Patience, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwaobodo, former Senate President Chief Ken Nnamani, former Vice President of Nigeria , Dr Alex Ekwueme, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Babanga Tukur, Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, governors, religious leaders, among others attended the funeral ceremony.
