Imo Workers Get Holiday Over 4th-Tier Govt
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has declared extra three days as public holiday for workers in the state for take-off of the 4th tier of the government introduced by his administration.
The governor made this known in a release signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr Obinna Duruji, in Owerri on Monday.
The release urged civil and public servants in the state to return to their various communities to assist in perfecting the take off of the community government programme.
“All civil and public servants in the state and local government civil service should note that in addition to the public holiday on May 1, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, have been declared work free day.”
It directed all the autonomous communities to identify all civil servants in their respective communities.
It also directed non indigenes in the local government civil service to register in the local governments of their residence.
According to the statement, the advance party, which comprises five persons each from the local governments and state, will ascertain the preparedness of each community to embrace the 4th tier of government.
It also urged the party to identify possible sources of revenue for the community government such as market.
The statement also directed each community development council to open a bank account with the head of administration and head of accounts as authorised signatures, pending the formal take off of the councils.
