HOS Cup: Walk-Overs, Penalties Hold Sway

The 2012 Rivers State public service football competition enters its 10th and 11th matches today at the Sharks FC Stadium with the Ministry of Information and Communications confronting their Civil Service Commission counterparts and Ministry of Energy engaging Ministry of Environment.

However, in the nine matches decided so far, four were decided via penalty shoot-outs after draw results within regulation  time, three through walk-overs and two within regulation time.

Last Friday at the Sharks FC Stadium, Ministry of Finance overcame their Water Resources counterparts 4-1 on penalty after a 1-1 score at full time, while Ministry of Budget put up a no show.

On Monday, Ministry of Culture and Tourism overcame Ministry of Transport 6-5 on penalties after a closely fought game. Later in the day, the office of the Secretary to the State Government had a  relatively comfortable 3-0 victory over Ministry  of Women Affairs, who played without any woman.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Power recorded a 3-0 walk over victory over former champions, Ministry of Commerce, who failed to show up.

In the second match of the day, office of the Head of Service (HOS) once again failed  at the first hurdle, losing narrowly 0-1 to their Chieftaincy and Community Development counterparts, to maintain their record of neither scoring nor winning a match on the pitch so far in the four year old competition.
