The Rivers State Ministry of Information
and Communication Football team, Mighty Sparrows, on Wednesday made a dramatic
entry to the 2012 edition of the Civil Service football competition, Head of
Service, HOS, Cup on Wednesday with a game against the Civil Service
Commission.

It proved to be a triumphant entry as the
Mighty Sparrows, against odds, ran out 1-0 victors to book their place in the
second round stage of the competition.

The Civil Service team had gone into the
game with so much hope and confidence, determined to carry the day.

As the match got underway, they seized the
initiative against their opponents, who apparently were lacking in
training/match fitness.

But former champions, the Mighty Sparrows
battled on and scored the decisive goal through hot shot, Francis Edoakor.

In the second match of the day, Ministry of
Environment overwhelmed their Energy counterparts 5-0. It was a solid
performance by the victors, though they had the advantage of fitness,
experience and number. The Ministry of Energy played with nine players to
Environment’s 11.

Again, yesterday, the Government House team
steamrolled Ministry of Urban Development, 4-0, playing with three men
advantage.

Urban Development could not raise a full
team and started with nine players, only to lose one to injury in the first
half.

On Monday the Ministry of Lands will engage
the Ministry of Sports in the final match of the first round.
