Group Donates Chest Centre To Anambra
A group of oil companies, Chevron, Famfa, Statoil and Petrobras last Friday in Awka donated a state-of-the art Chest Clinic to the Anambra Government to improve the health sector.
Handing over the clinic, the representative of the group, Mr Shola Adelabu, said the project would complement the efforts of Gov. Peter Obi.
Adelabu said it was part of the group’s social responsibilities to add value to the lives of the people and thanked Obi for making the project a reality.
Responding, Obi expressed gratitude to the group for its support and promised that the project would be handed over to the State University Teaching Hospital for management.
In a related development, the Governor disbursed cheques for more than N80 million as grant-in-aid to 40 missionary hospitals in the state.
Some of the beneficiaries are Red Cross Society of Nigeria; Faith Hospital, Awka; Niger Diocesan Hospital; St. Mary the Virgin Hospital and the East Niger Hospital, Ogbaru.
He said the administration would not relent to improve the health sector, saying that arrangements had been concluded to build a Cardiac Centre at St. Joseph Hospital.
He said the hospital would be located at Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha council area in honour of Dr Joe Nwiloh, a renowned heart surgeon.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Amobi Ilika, commended the governor for his commitment to the development of all sectors of the economy.
Ilika said government would upgrade the public health laboratory of the state’s University Teaching Hospital to a comprehensive and integrated centre, to serve the South-East in the area of research.
