Fertiliser Production: FG To Encourage Direct Foreign Investment
The Kano State Government has set up a committee to oversee the distribution of fertiliser to farmers in the state.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Mohammed Dankade, who announced the committee, said that the Chief of Staff, Dr Inusa Dangwani, would head the committee.
Dankade told newsmen in Kano yesterday that the measure was to check the illegal activities of middlemen, who bought the commodity and later resold it at exorbitant prices.
He said, “This will ensure justice, fairness and equitable distribution of the commodity, especially to local farmers.
“The committee, which comprises the Commissioner for Agriculture and other stakeholders, will ensure that the commodity reaches the target farmers.”
Dankade said that the state government had revived the state Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO) to facilitate the supply of improved seeds, agro-chemical equipment and fertilszer.
“Agriculture remains the most productive sector of our economy, hence the decision of the government to continue to accord it high priority,” he said.
He also said the state government would continue to partner the Federal Government and other agencies to ensure its full participation in the national agricultural projects and programmes to enhance food production.
