A Port Harcourt based lawyer and human rights activist, Barr. Chijoke Agi has hailed the Nigeria Bar Association for the peaceful conduct of its election last Thursday.

Barr. Agi, who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend expressed happiness over the handling of the biennial conference of the Bar.

The Port Harcourt lawyer expressed optimism that in the years to come, the NBA would lead by example.

According to him, “NBA is a respected organisation a professional body with a difference. Consequently the peaceful and orderly manner in which the NBA elections were conducted nationwide has demonstrated in no small way that the NBA is an organisation with integrity.

He, however, regretted that in some branches of the Bar, cabals were making it difficult for other members to win elections.

Barr. Agi urged members to write against the cabals and have then flushed out from the system, so that the professional body would continue to make its mark.

Also speaking, Barr. Endurance Akpelu, who practices in Port Harcourt remarked that the NBA would do better without a cabal.

Barr. Akpelu, however, commended the NBA for the peaceful conduct of the election.

He urged friends and colleagues at the Bar to continue to uphold the rule of law in order to remake our society.

Akpelu noted that the NBA would continue to enjoy a pride of place in the society so long as it champions the struggle for the respect of  the rule of law.
