Bayelsa Revokes Two Road Contracts
The Bayelsa State Government has revoked two road contracts due to the poor performance of the contractors handling the projects.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Markson Fefegha, who announced this in Yenagoa last Saturday, named the roads as the Nembe-Brass road and the Etegwe-Tombia road.
He said that the decision to terminate the road contracts was taken at the state executive council’s meeting on Friday.
Fefegha said that Moreno Construction Company (MCC), the contractor handling the N42 billion Nembe-Brass road project, lacked the technical capacity to complete the road.
He added that the contract for the Etegwe-Tombia road project was also terminated on the same grounds of incompetence on the part of the contractors.
“The present administration is absolutely ready to do away with briefcase-carrying contractors, who had retarded the development drive of successive administrations in Bayelsa.’’
Fefegha said that there was nothing on the ground to justify the N6.8 billion paid by the previous state administration to MCC, when government officials visited the site.
Contract for the Nembe-Brass road project was awarded in 2007.
