Anambra Police Intercept Stolen Truck, Arrest Three
The Anambra State Police Command, has intercepted a truck, laden with alcoholic beverages and spirits worth N10 million being diverted by its driver and two other persons in Onitsha.
The truck and goods, collectively worth about N50 million , belong to a haulage company and was billed for Jos but was allegedly diverted by the driver, Abdul Jimoh, and his two friends to Onitsha.
Mr Felix Kigigha, the officer in-charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the command, confirmed the arrest.
Kigigha said the arrest was made through a tip-off by good spirited individuals who the suspects had contacted to buy the goods and truck.
He said the trio wanted to sell the truck recently bought at the cost of N40 million for N20 million while they offered the alcoholic beverages and spirit estimated to cost N10 million for N2.2 million.
“Around 8 a.m. on Monday, we got a tip-off and we sent a detachment of police to investigate the information and they made contact with the suspects.
“The suspects agreed that they should pay N20 million for the truck and N2.2 million for the drinks before they were rounded-up at Ichie Community near Onitsha, where they stationed the truck,’’ he said.
Kigigha said the police had established contact with the haulage company while the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
The prime suspect, Abdul Jimoh, told the police he wanted to sell the goods and truck to raise money for his trip to Europe, adding that he had obtained passport, visa and other documents for the trip.
“One of my friends in Europe encourage me to go into this, since he said that truck driving is lucrative business in Europe and would assist me to get a company to drive for if I make it to Europe next month,’’ Jimoh said.
