RVHA Debates Ahoada Industrial Estate Dev, April 16

The Rivers State House of Assembly, has deferred debate on the motion seeking to promote the development of the Ahoada Industrial Estate in order to create investment opportunities in the state.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Otelemaba Amachree deferred debate on the motion to April 16, 2012, after its presentation at Wednesday’s sitting by the member representing Ahoada West constituency at the Assembly, Dr Chigbo Sam Eligwe.

The lawmaker said several years ago, the government constructed the Ahoada Industrial Estate to decongest Port Harcourt with the provision of infrastructure such as roads, water, 33 KVA step down facility on the estate.

Hon Eligwe explained that the essence of the motion was to bring government attention to the Ahoada Industrial Estate that is laying waste inspite of billions of naira already  committed into the project.

He remarked that the already made incentives created by the Rivers State government to would be investors and developers which include tax holidays, tax relief, provisions of uninterrupted water supply and power for newly established industries, should be extended to the investors wishing to do business in the second phase of the state industrial project at Ahoada.

The sponsor of the motion prayed the House to bring the attention of the state government through the relevant ministry, of the huge investment opportunities, the Ahoada Industrial Estate tends to provide and called for immediate action on the estate.

The lawmaker, urged the Assembly to direct the relevant ministry to mandate any company that comes into the state to seek land allocation to the Ahoada Industrial Estate.

In seconding the motion, the Leader of the House, Hon Chidi Lloyd, said the lawmakers need to visit some certain establishments of govt, emphasizing that Port Harcourt and its environs are already saturated and it places the Ahoada Industrial Estate at a vantage position for investment purposes.
