RTC Driver Gets Bail Over Reckless Driving
A driver with the Rivers State Transport Company (RTC), Mr. Samuel Adindu, has at last been granted bail on alleged reckless driving that led to the death of one Samuel Agbam.
The accused person was refused bail on 26th March, 2012 and remanded in prison custody when he was first arraigned before Senior Magistrate D. N. Wanjoku. However, but on 29th March 2012 when the matter was adjourn, to the Presiding Senior Magistrate D. N. Wanjoku granted the bail application as sought by his defence counsel.
The accused person, Samuel Adindu was said to have on 18th March 2012 at about 0730hrs inside Rivers State Transport Company (RTC) park along Waterlines Junction in Port Harcourt City Local Government Council did drive a Toyota Camry car with Reg. No. FP 321 LND recklessly in a dangerous manner which caused the death of one Samuel Agbam.
The accused person, Samuel Adindu, 38 is standing trial on one count charge of reckless driving and causing the death of one Samuel Agbam.
The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Ikosi Omanoye told the court that the accused person committed an office punishable under Section 24(1) of the State Road Traffic Edict No. 6 of 2009.
The accused person pleaded not guilty on the charge brought against him.
The presiding Senior Magistrate, D. N. Wanjoku granted the bail application with N500,000.00, one suretee, 2 passport photograph in like sum. She directed that the accused person must be a civil servant not less than salary grade level 6 and must show evidence of means.
The case was later adjourned to 17/4/2012 for further hearing.
