RSG Threatens To Shut Abonnema Wharf Tank Farm
The Rivers State Government has threatened to close down three petrol tank farm at Abonnema Wharf in Port Harcourt following the allegation that their operations posed a risk to the people of the state.
The state Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Dr Tammy Danagogo issued the threat during an inspection visit to the petrol tank farms recently.
He noted that the action had become necessary because tankers loading petroleum products from the petrol tank farm in Abonnema Wharf take over the road from Njemanze Street to Abonnema wharf as well as the Port Harcourt / Aba road.
Meanwhile, some aggrieved persons last week in Nembe, Bayelsa State staged a peaceful protest over the activities of multinational oil companies operating in the area.
The protesters which included youths and group of women threatened to disturb the operations and stop the operations of all the company’s boats and tugboats that ply the waterways in Nembe.
The Tide learnt that the meeting held between the people and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) ended in a deadlock.
Tension rose among the indigenes of Nembe. Spokesman of SPDC, Mr Precious Okologbo said the protest had been suspended by the youths following the engagement of the youths by the leadership of the company.
