RSG Assures On Monorail Phase One

Rivers state Government, says it is poised to deliver phase one of the monorail projects before the end of this administration.

The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. George Tolofari stated this while speaking to journalists in his office recently.

Tolofari said the importance of modern and effective means of transportation cannot be over-stressed, adding that an efficient transport system is a social responsibility that the state government owes is citizens.

According to him, this awareness informed government’s venture into the monorail projects, saying that when completed, the project would be the first in West Africa and the fastest means of land transportation in the country.

He noted that anyone who would take over as governor of the state come 2015, should cue into the aspiration and vision of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on the monorail project and complete it according to specification.

The Transport Commissioner also assured Rivers people that once the fuel problems stabilised, the forces for transportation would be reduced to the agreed price

Meanwhile, commercial drivers in the state have been directed to paint their vehicles in the state colours at sky blue, white and sky blue immediately or face government wrath.

The Transport Commissioner, Hon. George Tolofari who gave the directive during a meeting with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rivers State Chapter in his office recently said the directive became imperative to ensure easier identification in the event of any problem.

Hon. Tolofari warned that any commercial driver that failed to comply with this directive would be arrested and prosecuted, adding that the state government had mandated the Rivers state Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) to arrest and prosecute any transporter using the buss stops as loading points and operating at illegal motor parks.

In his response, the Deputy State Chairman of the NURTW, Pastor Duma Kalango thanked the government for their decision and assured of compliance.
