Physician Alerts On Fried Food Consumption
A medical practioner in Rivers State, Dr. George Mathew Ela, has advised Nigerians to avoid regular intake of fried food to check ailments such as hypertension, arthritis, rheumatism, malaria, diabetes and stroke among others.
Delivering a lecture at the Seventh Day Adventist Mission, Mile 3 Diobu in Port Harcourt, to mark this year’s World Health Day, Dr Ela expressed dissatisfaction over the way Nigerians consume food that are injurious to their health in the name of diet, stressing that until people go for fresh fruits like mango, pawpaw, orange, apple, banana, water Melon, vegetable, etc such ailments will continue to pose a threat to their health.
He decried a situation where some Nigerians are being congratulated for living up to sixty years when in actual sense God has designed that man should live beyond hundred years.
According to him, as people are ageing, they are expected to look younger and healthier but regretted that the opposite is rather the case because of the unhealthy food they take, noting the medical statistics have revealed that members of the Seven Day Adventist Church are the worst hit and called on them to henceforth go for food that will nourish their body.
He used the opportunity to appeal to members of the church to shun the habit of visiting private hospitals whenever they are sick as majority of the doctors are quacks.
Ela who recommended the public hospitals for the sick also warned them against taking drugs without doctors prescription adding that most of the drugs are poisonous to the body.
The medical expert also attributed premature death prevalent in the society to man’s inability to control the food he eats and called for man’s close partnership with God.
