PDP Vows To Fight Corruption
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared its readiness to be in the forefront of the ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to stamp out corruption from the country.
The newly elected National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh made the declaration in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to him, the declaration was in line with that of the party‘s new National Chairman, Bamanga Turkur, who in his acceptance speech promised to combat corruption in the country.
Metuh said that the party “will soon undertake a multi dimensional engagement with the Federal Government with a view to broadening the dragnet of anti-corruption crusade’’.
“Our vision for greatness cannot be transformed into reality in the horizon of corruption.
“As part of our rebirth agenda which is in line with the transformation programme of the PDP led Federal Government, the PDP is ready to orchestrate a change in the tapestry and tenor of the war on corruption,’’ the statement quoted Metuh as saying.
He added that the Tukur leadership of the party had taken a reflection on the cankerworm of corruption and had resolved on a multi dimensional engagement with the Federal Government to fight the menace.
He said the party had also “ resolved to stop corruption from eating out the soul of the nation’’.
He expressed regret that in a nation richly blessed by destiny, a huge chunk of the population went to bed daily hungry.
This, he said, was not because government was not committed to citizenry welfare but because of the actions “ of a greedy few who battle on all fronts to undermine good governance’’.
Metuh said that the party would liaise with the National Assembly to strengthen legislation on corruption so as to block all lapses in bringing corrupt persons to book.
Meanwhile, Metuh commended the EFCC for its positive roles in bringing the suspects of the pension scam to account for their roles.
“The sleazy tales of national shame oozing out of the pension probe is an undisguised heinous crime, an inhumanity to mankind.
“To deny at sunset, the wages of men and women, compatriots whose morning and afternoon were engaged in toils for fatherland is the most wicked toga and colour of corruption, ‘’ the statement added.
He urged the EFCC to sustain the momentum and to spread its investigations to government ministries and agencies.
This, he said, would expose and bring to book “this tiny per cent of more than 170 million Nigerians obsessed with attrition against good governance’’.
