Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has pledged to invest more in sporting activities to make the state a force to reckon with in sports.

Okorocha gave the pledge in Owerri while answering questions from newsmen on efforts being made by the government to encourage athletes in the state.

The governor said he was inspired by the 2-1 victory of Heartland FC in the CAF championship third round qualifying match against Unisport Hant Nkam FC of Cameroun last weekend.

Okorocha pledged that the government would invest heavily in sport, and would support its athletes to prepare for the National Sports Festival scheduled for November 27 to December 9 in Lagos.

The governor directed the state Sports Council and the Ministry for Youths and Sports to set a target of “at least five gold” for the athletes that would represent the state during the festival.
