The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) says it will reinforce the oil spill contingency plans to create and sustain zero tolerance for oil spill incidents in the nation’s environment.

This was contained in a statement by the Chief Executive Officer of NOSDRA, Mr Peter Idabor,  and made available to newsmen  in Kaduna on Wednesday.

The statement said that adequate implementation of the NOSDRA contingency plan would ensure safe response to disastrous oil pollution across the country.

It said that the agency had established a viable national operational plan that would appropriately protect and clean up oil spills in identified high risk areas, in order to restore and preserve the Nigerian environment.

It disclosed that the contingency plan would encompass the mechanism to monitor and protect threatened environment to achieve sustainable development in the country.

The statement said the agency had concluded plans to acquire pollution combating equipment required for effective response to major oil pollution.

It, therefore, urged the people to promptly report cases of oil spillage to the agency to facilitate immediate clean up.
